Why Is Lung Cancer Screening Important?

Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Approximately 85% of cases are associated with tobacco use; however, the disease can also develop in people who have never smoked. Early detection significantly increases the chances of successful treatment and long-term survival.

Risk Factors for Lung Cancer:

Active tobacco smoking
Exposure to secondhand smoke and prolonged contact with carcinogenic substances
Genetic predisposition

Lung Cancer Screening

In its early stages, lung cancer often develops without noticeable symptoms. For this reason, low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) is considered the gold standard for lung cancer screening in individuals at high risk. It is the most effective method for detecting the disease at an early stage.

Who Is Eligible for Screening?

According to international recommendations, Georgia launched its lung cancer screening program in 2026. The program is available to individuals who:

Are registered residents of Tbilisi
Are 45–75 years of age
Have a history of heavy tobacco smoking

Lung cancer detected at an early stage significantly improves the chances of survival. If you belong to a high-risk group, First Clinic offers you the opportunity to undergo lung cancer screening and take an important step toward protecting your health.
